As Americans we generally think of our troops as up standing heroic all American boys. In the days of old when real photo postcards were in fashion almost all aspects of military life were photographed and mailed back home from training camps. This was especially true for National Guard Units. While going through my collection of Wisconsin National Guard cards looking for pictures of medals being worn I ran across this card picturing some men of the WNG’s second Regiment, Company K playing Craps which most of you will know is a gambling dice game. To see this sub-rosa activity depicted on a picture postcard must be rare!

      Great image.

The subject matter is more common than most would think. I have seen a lot of camp life/ relaxed views from the RPPC era. I have several WW1 images with the same subject.
