      Looks like a die cut error. Probably worth some nice cash.

      The actual term for this is "clipped planchet" - it would have to be evaluated by a collector or coin dealer to be authenticated as a mint error. I base that on the fact it is dated 2001 and it is somewhat unusual for a clipped planchet coin to circulate for so many years since any coin counting machine would have dumped it due to its lower weight and non-standard diameter. You can also see a rounded "press" mark on both sides which could have been done when the planchet was originally cut at the mint or later by being held in some type of vise or press. - Either way, even a uncirculated version of this error on a Jefferson nickel only has a value of about $7 - circulated like yours maybe $4 or $5
