I came across this Wm Goldsmith Plow Plane at a local estate sale. I did some research, but found very little about it. It appears it was made between 1837 - 1868. Looking for any information I can get. How common is it? What is it worth? Thanks

Cool purchase, I've never seen one of these before, did it come with blades (irons)?

Did not come with any Irons. Would any iron work?

They would have to be the correct length & thickness.
Check Google for replacement blades for Wm Goldsmith Plow Plane
Are you going to use it?
This link talks about some things to look for in regards to condition.

I was hoping to sell it. Looking for information first. If it isn't worth that much, I would just keep it.

It all depends on condition then.

The condition appears to be very good. Only defect is the black tar on the bottom of the fence. slides nice, no dings or broken parts. Nice color. Just wondering the approximate price range. $25 - $75 or something more?

Have you tried researching to find out if there is a relationship with Thomas Goldsmith? The stamp is to big and appears to have the word warranted on it, that would pretty much rule out Thomas. He was late 1700's until around 1800. The design of this one is very similar to some made by Thomas Goldsmith. Perhaps Wm. was his father or a son and the business passed on? The value will depend mostly on how many are known to exist. Condition and irons included will effect the value after you know how many are known to exist. Some are worth $10 and others could be worth $100 or $1000. If you can hold off selling it, it is worthy of research.

PS: The large stamp and word warranted being there would probably put it in the date range you listed above.
