What I know about the plane: It was made by the Metallic Plane Co. in Auburn NY sometime between 1860 - 1880. On the side it is stamped "Palmer & Storkes Patents May 14, 67 October 19 69."
Thanks for the comment. When you say ripper. What would it be used for? What does it rip? It looks like an letter opener. But it is to big.
The condition appears to be very good. Only defect is the black tar on the bottom of the fence. slides nice, no dings or broken parts. Nice color. Just wondering the approximate price range. $25 ...

Not sure if this will help, but the tool is 9 1/2 inches long. I think it may be some type of adjustable wrench to fit into a tight space.
It slides up and down. You tighen the screw to hold it in place. That is why I thought it was some type of adjustable wrench. Down opens it. Up tighens it.
No it is not threaded.
