This is a slag glass lighthouse style base lamp at an estate sale happening next week. I have not been able to find any lamp like it and was wondering if anyone has seen this lamp or similar lamps. I would like to make an offer on it but frankly am not educated on this type of lamp and hate to loose money. Any suggestions? Thank you for any input!
Your photo of Slag glass lamp has me wondering if someone cleaned the metal framework . I would think it was originally gold and maybe some of the cherubs or flowers were painted a different color . To clean it decreased value and also make sure glass has no hairline cracks . If the finish would not have been removed and because also has lower lighted base the value would be much more .
I will let someone else on CW chirp in on this too so and wait to get another opinion
These Slag glass lamps were popular in 1920's . But may repro's on market so I am not sure without seeing in person . I will also add I had one with curved slag glass on it and one piece was cracked and very costly to get replaced because they have to hand make and bend it just right .vs the flat glass on these types of lamps .
Thanks for your input. . . I will get a very close look at it in a couple of days and will be able to look for details.
I love it but like everyone else be careful. Try looking at it with a black light it usually brings up any repairs. Small pocket ones are inexpensive.
