    part of the book published in 1976 by steven.j.price, birmingham old and new 1900-1975 celebrating 75 years of birmingham photographs
    the central library opened in 1974 and closed last month to make way for a new lending library in broad street opening in september-i spent many hours inside in the technical sections, described at the time as the most modern library in europe.

      thanks pw-collector. does anybody remember after the pub bombings in november 1974 having to be searched by 2 security guards as you went in?, you had to leave all your bags and coats as well on the 1st floor before you could go upstairs-you were given a ticket to collect them on the way out-this went on for many years after those pub bombs by the ira, later it became a tea and sandwich bar around the late 1980s.
