This is my Steven Kretchmer designed tension engagement ring. At the time we were dating, I was working with kids as a gymnastics instructor and my then boyfriend went about looking for an engagement ring that wouldn't cut or scratch a child I was working with. It was a truly thoughtful and well thought out search. Steven Kretchmer was considered a leading artist in tension setting jewelry and was unfortunately killed in a motorcycle accident one month after my husband gave it to me. We freaked a little hoping it wasn't a bad omen. The ring is marked 18k/ 6.57, could someone tell me what the 6.57 stands for?

Gorgeous ring...I am not sure..but sometimes they put the size of the stone in mm in the stamping...so if the stone is lost or broken.....they know what size to replace it with...a code for the size. OR the size of the ring finger.....I have a few pieces with the designers code along side the hallmarks. XO

I would freak & think it would fall out, as I see it hasn't & it wasn't a bad omen after all is good news.

The tension is so high it's almost impossible for it to fall out:) The only thing is is that its almost impossible to resize without compromising its stability. So its been a good incentive to keep my weight in check, smart husband:)

They do know how to get there won way don't they. But for me if something is going to happen I'm just the one to have it happen to.

Sorry, I misunderstood your earlier post:)

Sorry...I meant other pieces with codes and serial numbers that the designer adds to let you know what is in the mounting. I have diamond earrings and necklaces that have numbers....

I don't think a bad omen can beat the thoughtfulness of choosing a ring to really fit you as a person. And I think the tension setting is an impressive innovation that will be highly regarded as years go by. There's not a huge difference between our jewelry-craft now and some from three hundred and even two thousand years ago, so the early tension-set stuff is notable.
