A friend of my sister was a pro-photographer who left her this camera among other things when he died. Label attached says,"My first camera". He was born about 1920 so I am guessing this is from early 30's. I see no markings & haven't seen one like it on CW. I'm sure some of the camera collectors can name it. Sorry that it doesn't have nice wooden case & brass slides & hinges, but you can't have anything. Note also said it cost 25 cents when his allowance was 35 cents(week, month, year?).
Mustangtony correctly identified the camera. It was made by the Universal Cameras Company and dates to about 1933. It cost $0.39 new. If you look closely, you will see a couple small holes near the front. The holes would hold a folding wire finder.
I'm flying @ 7:00 AM & will have to take your word rnieder about the holes & wire. Maybe in 3-5 yrs, I can ck for the holes. Thanks for answering the question so fast as I was just going to crash.
very nice camera:)
My first camera that I used was a box brownie & I'm glad that you have solved who the maker is.
I had never seen one of these on CW & nice to know. Thanks guys. PS: got home today at 1:30 & finally warm again! What happened to that global warming they kept promising?
Hey blunderbuss2, please keep visiting over at the Coca-Cola section. The b.s. has blown over and we need you around. I enjoy your stuff and comments, you're one of my favorites. Come on back, brother.
I got this because I'm still eliminating connections with CW, Daddy. I was in the States 2 weeks & came back to a month worth of work. After I get caught-up, I will make my decision as whether to get involved with CW again. Got an email from Hunter & you guys are lucky to have somebody like him on your staff. I also received several emails commenting on how radical, purist Coke collectors can be & I guess I've seen it & didn't recognize it before. My fault there. My decision will have to be after I get caught-up with work here & chill. As I told Hunter, I just don't have the time weeding thru hoarders & Sanford & Son crap .looking for something to stir the interest of a (past serious) collector. Need not communicate thru this posting as it will be deleted from my file as soon as I submit this. I've retired 3, maybe 4 times & seem to work harder each time to retire again. Wish I could remember what I've retired from in the past!
Hope our paths cross again, whether it be here or elsewhere. God Bless and Take Care.
Im so glad your still on here buddy!!!! life wouldn't be the same without you on here :)
Hey you old fart! Are you still in hibernation?
