For Scott ... this is a scan of an 1888 catalogue reference for the Ideal camera that appears in your latest posting. The specific camera is shown in Fig 1. The style reference is mentioned in the last paragraph: "Sizes up to 6-1/2 x 8-1/2 are made same as Fig 1 ..." Assuming this is the whole-plate camera in your image, it was advertised for $28 (single swing model). Also note that this reference mentions Honduras mahogany instead of Cuban mahogany noted in my 1886 listing.

Ad mentions "price includes one English book holder"-- is that the wood frame that holds the plate?

Scott ... yes. It actually holds two plates. It is called a "English" because it opens like a book to load the plates. This is a unique design first created by English builders and occasionally adopted by some American companies.
