Since Rebessin just posted his Asta Strömberg bowl

    http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/97469-elipse-and-vase-bowl-by-asta-strmberg?in=user

I hurry up to present mine which I just bought some weeks ago. It has a fantastic ability to catch and reflect the light, it's really one of the favorites in my collection. I just discover Asta Strömberg with the help of rebessin, and I must say that she is really extremely original. Waht I like most about her ist that her pieces are very individual without being pretentious or "arty".

Mine has the catalogue number T 422 when I read well. It stand 9 cm high, 12 cm large, perfectly round, and very heavy: 1,5 kg.

T422? I don't think rebessin knew this. His was not numbered thought to be a 'second'.

austro , how does the vase feel ? is it smooth and heavy?
    6. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 11 years ago
Yes sir, smooth and heavy! all the bubbles, etc are in an inner layer, so there's actually no difference between this an a... "smooth looking" one.

Remember I have another vase with a simmilar technique: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/85753-strmbergshyttan-vase-with-blue-bubbles

Dear austro: What is written on your bowl - same thing as on mine? Do I understand rebessin's comment well that it could also be Gunnar Nylund?
    9. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 11 years ago
Yes, the signature is just the same :) Not sure about who the designer was... there's always this mistery about Strömbergshyttan items. My vase, for instance, was suposed to be Nylund's design with a finishing by Asta S. :)

Isn't it great we both the same bowl within such a short time? :)

I think it is wonderful!!!! that you two had the bowl in a such a short time!!!!! hats off to you 2!!!!!!

Let's hope that these are the two only ones. Because I think she is a great artist, and Nylund too! I look at it. Carlo Scarpa couldn't be better.

you 2 have some stunning mcm glass collections!!!!!

I wish! I'm looking at your pics and I think yours looks more beautiful than mine... mine has several dark spots all around -I guess burnt material-... aAlthough it's got its original black label (so it's no second class piece).

      Thanks Sean!

Hi, It's as you wrote, an Asta Strömberg design. Early 1970s, not later than 1972. The technique here seems to be similar to other pieces presented in light blue with bubbles. Underlay with some detergant powder (I will ask some employes how they did exactly). Here the underlay bubbles and texture is more round and not so extracted as in austrohungaros vase B894. That's because the vase form and the last clear glass layer is added after the powder is rolled in. The bubbles and the textured pattern follows the form of the glass when blown and droved out.

Seems rather complicated. The effect is stunning, I don't have an item which is more intense in ligth. I have to say that those very simple designs, combined with so much fantasy and kills, seem rather unique to me - not so far away from Carlo Scarpa, to be immodest.
