I always approach these finds with a bit of skepticism but........ THIS IS AWESOME !! OK, got that out of my system. Now if this happens to be real and not a fake or reproduction it will be my best find ever. I actually found a very similar one on Live Auctioneers .com to compare it to. http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/14323956_chinese-porcelain-punch-bowl
What it appears to be is a large (11.5" diam.x 4.75" tall) Chinese export porcelain punch bowl from the 18th or 19th century, made for the European market with panels of hunting scenes. I'll have to send a lot of pictures to the Asian Art Forum and see what the experts there say before I get really excited. I have some things I question like the flaws in the bowl that look like a layer is chipping away. I've never seen that before and it looks suspicious to me, but I could be wrong. It's not chipped or cracked just paint wear and still rings like a bell. Real or not it is very nicely hand painted and would still make a wonderful decorative piece. -Mike-

I agree with everything you've said. I hope it works out!

Thanks vetraio50 Once I put my eyes back in my head...lol I saw no reason not to buy it.In fact I would have kicked myself if I didn't. I almost never go to this GW either. They never seem to have anything . It's more of a training store. I turned in the parking lot at the last second. I felt the same about my Imari plates yet they are all real according to the experts on the Asian Art forum. So I trust their evaluations.

Sometimes the 'sirens' just whisper in your ear! The training centre may have grown up. I'd give it another go! I'd have bought it too. This one could teach you a lot. Expensive?

No it wasn't expensive at all vetraio50, 6 dollars plus 4 dollars for little luster ware pitcher that was sitting inside it. Of course I left some stuff for the others nldionne...bawhaha :)

A very cheap learning vehicle. The painting is really nice. Love that cross cultural appreciation of the "hunt". It's a metaphor about our collecting!

I know this was a while ago Mike but did you find out about it's authenticity?
No matter really it is just such a gorgeous bowl. Now where have you put it - table, dresser or a box?

Oh yes..... I did some follow up posts after it was authenticated. It's been in a New York art gallery for auction since April. It didn't sell the first time so I had them lower the reserve. If it doesn't sell after the third time I'll get it back. My sister lives in New Jersey and works in New York so she could pick it up for me and save the cost of shipping it back. I hope it sells but I won't be sorry to get it back.
