A great estate find a mint with original box of Eagle Rare 101 Proof 10 year aged bourbon whiskey. I have done some research and can't find many of these old bottles for sale out there. I believe from the bottom its from 1979 and from what I have noticed is that this is very nice whiskey. I was curious if anyone had a ballpark figure on value or could share any other info with me.

Old full bottles that command a premium price are usually bottles that sold for a premium when new, and that have an international following/recognition. Since they still make this and it sells for $25.-27.00 for their top line, I would crack it open, share, and enjoy. Once bottled, whiskey/whisky does not continue to age (like wine does) it stays the same or degrades.

A waste of fine liquor...but then again, a find like yours is better when reserved for a Grande Occasion of Extreme Proportion. It's BEAUTIFUL! Thank you for sharing. =)

Thanks ..but I think TA is confused about whiskey. First this older rare eagle is much more quality bourbon than what's being produced today and taste completely different. Also Whiskey Bourbon that are vintage didn't have to have a large price tag to be quality these are very sought after and I was just informed it a 100.00 bottle. Just waiting for the right time to.crack it.

Bourbon and always neat ... but if powerful like George T. Stagg stuff, then gets cut to taste. BTW ... when you do decide to drink it, I suggest serving in Glencairn glasses.

Very nice find. I'm always looking for old bottles at estate sales but haven't come across any yet. (This is complicated by the fact that companies who run estate sales typically dispose of alcohol because it's illegal for them to sell the booze--such a waste.) How much did you pay for this?

The place I went to had many other bottles must of which were sealed and vintage from the 1960s and 70s all for 10.00 per bottle.

That's amazing. I dream of finding a place like that. I'm not sure if you ever drank that bottle but I'm betting that Eagle Rare 101 is pretty great bourbon.

And yeah, 1979 seems pretty clearly the year for that bottle. Even if the sometimes ambiguous date code wasn't embossed on the bottle you can still tell it's within a few years on either side of 1980 because of the the dual volume statement (given as both 750 ML and 25.4 fl. oz.). As of January 1, 1980 the U.S. government changed the bottling standard from imperial to metric so many brands used both measurements during this transitional period.

Thanks Apho for the information I sadly never drank it. I was put in touch with a gentlemen from San Fran that convinced me to part with it.

If you still have this bottle unopened and want to sell this bottle by all means contact me.

I actually bought my father this exact bottle in 1980 for his birthday. I loved the box and I knew he loved to drink bourbon. He said he was going to save it for a special occasion. Sadly he never drank it, but happily for me at least I found it unopened among his estate after he passed.
