    Another interesting new arrival
... the shape (officially) is from 1899
Pattern 8038 ... produced in "Creta papillon" and "Rubin matt Iris IV/714"
    ... 1900 Production number 161 in Arcadia, Papillon, Cisele & Glatt ...

To me these hand painted and colored pieces date back to an earlier age ...
Produced in a Grey toned glass, decorated with Slipper Orchids (Paphs.) at the centre and smaller yellow orchids (?) for the border ....

Could be an arcadia piece but I think the Arcadia's in general relate more to the Gold stenciled / outlined forms that followed or reincarnated these earlier pieces ...

Must confess to suspecting it was not "French Art Glass" when I bought it ... although the I/I was not mentioned ... just a nice surprise !! Thanks again to Warren for bringing this decor to my attention in an earlier posting.

    Height 9.75" Diameter approx. 7"

Awesome, Steve - did you shine a black light on it yet?

Good thought ... Looks to be clear iridescent rather than opalescent ... certainly grey as compared to say Olympia ... I will check it in tomorrow !

Great find and beautiful Slipper Orchids. Thanks for providing the information for this DEK!

Tested with UV today ... Nice purple color but no sign of any reaction ...
... Not sure what that means ...
Certainly the white glass in Onyx, Carneol & Octopus glows fairly brightly ...
Some Olympia lights up while others (same shape) do nothing ...
The yellow Paeonia is Orange under UV ... the pink does nothing ...
Most of the peach-blow pieces out shine the light ... same with my other Arcadia ...

Is this the Annin / Klostermuhle difference ??

      Steve,

Looking at the list of decors in the big book, I think this one would have to be considered Candia Glatt. Candia is a colorless ground. So, not Arcadia - Candia, even though this Dek, (I/I) would have no doubt have been also used on Arcadia pieces.

Steve - an AHA moment... this decors WAS used on an Arcadia piece - my own! One I published here two years ago (I still have it):

      http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/34941-loetz-arcadia-serie-ii-form-nr-139-d

Thanks to you, I now know that my Arcadia vase has a decor: Dek I/I!

      Hi Warren
Different design and colour combinations in these earlier pieces .... all including this palettes of colour and a few additional reds & browns ...
Think I have seen a I/2 or 4 with the purple slipper orchid as well (that is what I was looking for when I unpacked this piece) ... so not definite as to what separates these early decors ... did reference your piece in the initial description (where links don't work) ....
Not sure if I go with the candia ... is a grey tone ...
Somewhere one of the I/I's belongs in 1879/1880 when Max Ritter Von Spaun (?) started all this cryptic numbering ....!!!!
