Yes, some of it might be considered junk, but I'm fine with that! My grandpa, who raised me, used to have a big white van that he would take to all the auctions around the Midwest. He would come home with loads and loads of all kinds of things. A case of peaches set to expire in 1 week, a box of old doorknobs, some depression glass, and a little diamond ring found at the bottom of that doorknob box.
Since this was before the internet, he'd hand me an antiques book and we'd both start searching for the value and the "story" of his treasures.
I guess that's where I got it from, the "treasure hunting bug". I love to hold something old and just think about all the people who have used it, who have loved it and displayed it. I would much rather surround myself with items that have HISTORY, because history is a story, ya know? Why on earth would I treasure something that was mass produced in a factory and lined up on shelves across the country? (Read more)
