1908 It was a spectacular innovative time. With glass houses opening everywhere. Easiest way to make a buck, or was it? I think not. It was hard hot work. Miserable temperatures. 150 degrees in some of these shops this is where Alvin Becraft started as a carry boy in Bartlett and Collins. In these times the owners of these glass shops would go to orphanages and act as a guardian and get these 12 to 14 year old boys to bring back to shop to work in the back taking the heavy off the older seasoned blowers so they could work longer hours it was all about quantity. It was crazy times when families could not afford to feed all the children to be forced to actually mail babies. Alvin not so much he was a little bit better off but he was a carry boy and he worked in hot back of the shops carrying hot molten glass to the blowers on the other end. It was his dream to be a glass blower someday l. That he was. Filling his dream exactly how he imagined it. I am sure! I am proud of these working men of the early to mid 20 th Century. Real hard working men.
