Many thanks for all of your comments - EstateAntiques, I also think this may be 800 silver. I'll probably give the pieces a try on ebay after the holiday and see how they do.
I have a small collection of Eskimo carvings, and this one looks authentic. I can't see what the numbers/letters on the bottom are, but most "real" Innuit art has some type of letters incised into it...
