My first "find" was a once-in-a-lifetime treasure. In the trunk of an old junker car I bought, I found a Vintage Jumbo Dunhill-Namiki Maki-e Fountain Pen. It had a 24k gold nib, gold dust, abalone, and a hand painted scene by Master Artist "Shogo". The car was bought at an estate sale, and the history behind the pen is still a mystery.
In 2006, a pen of the same type and size (and signed by the same artist) sold for $259,000.00 at auction in NYC. The market had dropped considerably by the time I sold mine in 2014. Still, I was very fortunate and blessed by the amount I received!
