I really know nothing of the value of these big signs these days...I know what I paid for this one with its original post, which I felt was alot but I knew it was in very good condition when I first s...
I did...thanks for the tip. Guess I got used to using oven cleaner on painted signs!
I've been in a gas station bathroom or two that could use one of those...and an Airwick... Very cool!
I strongly recommend not overdoing it...you might want to sell one (to me of course). Nice find, been looking for a "Big Tex" of my own. I have a 42"
Ironically, now everything is sub standard, from service to restaurant food to health care. We pay more for it though. What gives?.. I think thats one thing that attacts me to these signs...they are...
I think "Standard" just refered to the oil company itself, not the measure of the service. Even knowing this, it was still better than "Sub-Standard"-lol. Nice find!
I saw a complete door exactly like this somewhere in East Tennessee at an antique store. It was displayed, not for sale. From what the owner told me it came from a local grocery store. Very cool piece...
Wow, a cool sign, and free bench to boot!!! Those were pretty faithful repops though, and I think the original ones would be dated...
I saw one of these recently in an antique store in Hendersonville, N.C. They were asking $350. Is it one or two sided?
I just bought one of these within that price range, dated 3-32. Price will usually depend on 4 things...condition, condition, condition, and however much someone is willing to pay for it. These old Te...
Still like the sign...is it for sale yet?
If it comes up for sale, i would be interested...
Very cool...great find
Not seen one of these for a while, but a big VW fan. Willing to make an offer if you decide to sell...
Thanks Signaholic...I love bringing old stuff back. To me it makes it that much more worth the while, and history is preserved! It's amazing what you can do with some Easy Off oven cleaner (and a lot ...
Thanks folks, very satisfying being able to bring it back. Buried treasure isn't always dirty!
Thanks Metalman...
Thanks Paul...
I need a new thermometer for mine(just like yours). Where can I find one? Thanks
Very cool, I especially like that it is porcelain. You'll have to check out my 36" Button that I reclaimed.
Just curious...what is the price range on this thermometer if in really good condition? (like yours) Thanks
One of the coolest items on the site...Just imagining the implications of it surviving for so long. Thanks for sharing.
SOCONY was a division of the Standard Oil Company, which was broken up by congress in the early 1900's. SOCONY is an acronym of the Standard Oil Company of New York, just like 'STANOLIND' is for India...
Looks like the diamond-shaped plate on the horizontal sign has a maker ID on it...
There may be a manufacture date either painted or stamped on the outside surface, or possibly a plate stamped with the info on it elsewhere, possibly inside the cabinet. There should be an access pan...
I found one at a local antique store, but bummer...I hate paying retail. The $$$ range is between 250-300. Sounds about right but I'd like to know more about its rarity before I take the plunge if I d...
I found a sign exactly like this I'd like to buy...can you give a range to the value of yours? Thanks
I have be racking my brain trying to think of it. It was a canoe company though, one with a Native American name, like Nargansett or something like it.
p.s. The fiberglass was probably appled back in the 70's when it was all the rage as a lightweight, waterproof covering. Hopefully the hull is in good shape if you decide to take it off and return it ...
Beautiful boat, looks very solid. Looks like its missing it's duckboards thought that would lay on the bottom of the boat for walking on. As far as a maker, I would check with some of the canoe compa...
Thanks Brandon. I've been collecting for a few years now and I still have yet to see another in the same round cut and size. I would think there would be a lot more out there considering Wolf's Head's...
Wow, 2004? How did you find that Haha! I was thinking about the same as far as value. Two things that def. add to value are condition and availability, I'm hoping I found a more rare example. Thanks f...
I grew up in the Akron, Oh area and we had a couple 'Monky' Wards there. They went under back in the '80s I believe.
The devil is in the details, right? My wife says sometimes I pay too much attention lol.
Looks just like the one in your gas station pics...very cool, and so were the pics of back-in-the-day (You knew who you were then... girls were girls and men were men) Thanks!
Appreciate the interest, but I really would like to know more about it and its value...Looks like it possibly had a frame of some kind around it but can't be sure. I've done several searches on differ...
I have one almost the exact same condition, both sides. Def. one of my favorites. Mine is a little older though and has the blue-line background on the letters. Very cool!!!
The sign is worthless...but I would be glad to give it a new home if you don't have room for it lol...Very cool, but as for value have no idea. I do love the fact it is leaning against an old Ghia tho...
Yeah, I had to convince my wife that it is not a 10k sign, not even in immaculate, eat-off-of-it condition. I paid a little more for mine, but to me it was worth it and I am not a dealer just a collec...
Looks real to me...saw one almost identical to it yesterday. Very cool that the maker's name is on the piece (advertising on someone else's dime lol)
