Everyone in my extended family were very creative. We were almost entirely self sufficient. I learned many varied skills fromm grandparents uncles and aunts. I became a journalist and travelled widely always takingctime from assignments to search out local artists and share time and knowledge with them. I returned to university and studied art andcanthropology and conti ued collection works from the human hand, many say my house is like a museum. when I hold an Iitem I can feel the hand of the maker. Friends often are desvelieving when I say things like "this was made by a woman ".they want to know how I could know that. I cannit explain only that I feel a womans or a mans hand in mine. I have learned the science of the curator and can restore most things to museum standards but do nit like to take on work for others. I have enough of my own treasures to tend too that I will llc need to live to 150 if I am to ensure these wonders remain around to delight those who have taken the time to learn to see, nit just look. I am afraid to say that I believe the human race is quickly forgetting how to dream their dreams into reality. This takes a lifetime to learn. (Read more)

  3. This obe asks more questions than I can answer. It was originally purchases in Japan in the 1950s. I suspect it was old then as the mark is in an old form calligraphy.
  4. Well I have done a bit of research and my eyes told me the pot had been buried as it had an accumulation of fine crusted soil at the pinch before the lip. It occurred to me that the thinness of the po...
  5. You are a wonderful wealth of info. Thanks so much.
  6. I can't profess to know clay decoration from unfired iron oxide. The pot has been fired once at least and is. Extremely thin. Not the kind of thing one throws then fires just for fun. It had a purpose...
  7. Thanks muchly all. Just to keep the conversation rolling I suspect this pot was used to store grain (corn?). The unfired slip seems to date it very early: Ceramics in Mexico date back thousands of ...
  8. Thanks. Yes the sun flower collar is very distinctive. I am guessing it was painted and left unfired for a purpose. Perhaps when seed is stored humidity might be indicated by the color of the oxide, a...
