Came across 4 of these chairs, 2 are in great cond. and 2 are in need of some tlc (they were kept outdoors in a screened in porch while the other 2 were kept inside) seem to be "plycraft" style chairs but not sure -I have not been able to find any similar ones or info on the internet... top layer is a veneer , seat area is vinyl (I have 2 black and 2 green) four legs on underside screw on and off , there is no label or stamp of any kind on any of them so i have no idea who they were made by...any Info would be appreciated....
Very Cool Find!
These were produced Mid-Century by Carter Bros. & are commonly known as "scoop" chairs. Not certain, but I think Carter Bros. was based out of High Point, North Carolina?
Hope this helps?
Have a great weekend,
Jay
Wow !!! I had one of these chairs the vinyl on it is yellow. I gave it to a friend four years ago when I moved house .It was the only one I'd seen . Mystery solved ...but how the heck did it get to Australia!!!
I had a pair of chairs like thes with the single bent board in the back and screw on legs. They were from the Jordan Marsh furniture co, which is a Massachusetts company. They were in rough shape, especially the leather.
I can remember having an orange one in our house in the 60's. Great chair. These were mass marketed by Sears Roebuck.
