This was the light that sat on top of my Dad's taxi cab during the 1940's. I cant find out anything about it except that it was made by a company named Neon - Lite Sign Co. in Pennsylvania. It has an electric cord that runs from it so I suppose it connected inside to the dash somewhere.
I have the very same taxi sign, it is from the 40s and I had mine re-wired so I could actually use it again. The suction cups have hardened but still a cool piece to own, especially since it was on your dad's cab!
Here's mine.

I drove a cab in Las Vegas, Nevada for 4 years (2002-2006). Taxis in Vegas have a large triangular plastic topper for advertising purposes. When I was hired, I had to sign a contract to pay $1500.00 if any damage occurred to it. I have always wondered if these old toppers were still around. Love it!
It looks well made and classy compared to the cracked plastic piece of cr@p siliconed to the roof of our local cabbies car. I miss back when.
