A 245 mm high, orange vase by Morales Schildt. Blowed with an orange patterned underlayer, and drived out top with simple hand tools. Signed "Kosta 46478 M. Schildt".

A 160 mm high Ventana vase, also by Morales Schildt. Blowed with purple underlayer in Ventana-technique. Cutted sides and top. Signed a little unclear but i think it is "Kosta SS 70". "SS 70" stands for "Shildt, slipat(cutted), no 70". The Ventana technique was created in colaboration with masterblower Bengt Heintze, and he made all these models by Morales-Shildt. It's a difficult work to get the layers in precise thickness for the right window (ventana in Spanish) opening on the sides after cutting. I think also the orange vase is a work by masterblower Heintze (as I see it's a masterpiece of workmanship).

Wonderful glass by my favourite Kosta designer. As you probably know, her work can usually be defined as before Goran Schildt (her husband) and after. They divorced in 1964 and most the pieces designed in that year and after are usually signed Mona Morales rather than Morales Schildt. That year appears to signify a change in direction of her work as she moved away from the modernism of the Ventana series to the more complex decorated patterns such as in the orange vase above.
Your piece is signed with the 5 digit number probably introduced also in 1964 when Kosta began an alliance with Boda. The first digit being the type of ware, 4 for a vase, 5 for a bowl etc. The 2nd and 3rd digits being the year of design. This system appears to cover Lindstrand and Morales Schildt pieces but the work produced by the Warff's sometimes doesn't conform to this rule. Yours is signed 46478 M. Schildt probably just before the engravers were asked to drop the Schildt. Anyway, you probably know all this but its interesting to pass the information on to those interested in Kosta glass.

Hi rebessin the dating information is more general rather than specific but 1964 was a turning point for Morales Schildt and the company. I forgot to mention that the Warff''s also arrived in 64.

By the way, which is exactly the Spanish or South American origin of Mona Morales? Morales is a very very Spanish name...

Hi rebessin! I adore this yellow series by Mona Morales-Schildt! The yellow-orange is gorgeous, and the technique and workmanship are just incredible! I had a bowl once, 24cm in diameter and signed like this:
      Kosta 764 72 M. Schildt
So -thanks to glassart- I take it the bowl was made in 1972 (My guess had been "before 1964" as I knew about her divorce). My question concerns the technique: Are these pieces examples of the Graal technique?

I'm searching for answer of your question, designqvist. I'm also wondering? It can be som type of "graal" technique, where you must applay the decore pattern on an embryo with the colored orange overlayer, and then in cold stadium, cut or engrave down in the color layer to get a thinner surface between the short lines and long wires. The orange layer on the embryo must be quite thick and to avoid bubbles in the pattern, you must waltz in it carefully so it will be flat. The pattern here must have flattened properly, therefore it flowed a little. Then the little blurry edges of the lines have formed.
