Hello, Sad Indian, maybe end of line? Horse looks sad and tired, I like this! This has made me crazy! Print or painting? Back is wood, old frame, was hooves and feather of Indian cut off along with signature to fit frame? Was this a small painting done before a larger one? or? Need help! Thanks for looking! Don

Is the back sealed or can it be taken out easily?

I do not have any info to offer on your painting, however it is wonderful.

I would highly suggest to remove the wood backing, as most wood species are acidic, or contain tannins that can be very harmful to artwork!

Tom, did you ever find out the title of the piece or who the artist was? It seems like a print but maybe the artist was hidden by the framing.

At least you have a name and title. It might be helpful to email the gallery in the link and ask for some help in authentication of your piece.

As an art collector I understand how difficult it is to figure out who painted what. Lots of reproductions, repops and fakes. Value is nice, but I still enjoy all my stuff the same.

also that one looks under glass mine is not? I wonder about things too much!haha

I know that link above has the artist listed as Walter G. Smith but he has also had it on eBay for over 5 years. Looking at the artists work, nothing looks similar to the Native American work. It doesn't seem to be his style. So, I wonder if the artist really is Granville Smith. Still a mystery haha

I did take a quick look when I found the link, but did not explore more than to Google the artist name. I say a few other works like you mentioned. Artists often did many different works over their lifetime. Yes more research needed..

You'll also note, I said he should reach out the the shop and see if they could authenticate it. If they are listing this as such, they could have information we donnot have.

I have the same print. W Granville Smith signature is at the bottom. It is approximately 18" X 30". Not handly at present. You are correct, yours has been trimmed to fit frame. Horses hooves approximately 3" from bottom. All of feather is showing. Don't know how to post picture, Tag on picture has "Setting Sun 1899"
