I've really gone and done it this time. How am I supposed to top this weekends pick. I actually found a vintage Eames Lounge chair! And for a GREAT price! I can't stop smiling like a weirdo. All original tags. I was told the chair is 50 years old but I am not so sure. The date is worn away on the tags. Either way it IS pretty old. I would say at least 1970 or before. The rosewood veneer is in excellent condition with one small chip. I have terrible lighting in my house so I will post more pictures when I can get some natural light in here. I just couldn't wait to show you guys!
Sweet!! Nice pick! Also love those two headed lamp...I always pick them up...orange atomic ashtrays scattered about? (Have you seen how people hang them on their walls now?). Again...SWEET!
Congratulations on a great pick!
Thanks! Yes I love ashtrays even though I do not smoke and orange is my favorite color. You can also see the edge of my Adrian Pearsall boomerang coffee table. I haven't seen the ashtrays on the wall, but I will have to keep that in mind because if I keep buying them, I will run out of surfaces to place them soon enough. haha.
Thanks vetraio and bratjdd
Such an amazing find!
beautiful!!!!!
I've added some more pictures guys. Enjoy!
Hey. Great find.
A first approximation of date is to date the last patent listed on the bottom of the chair. http://patft.uspto.gov/netahtml/PTO/search-bool.html That gives you the oldest possible date of the chair. I believe the last patent listed on your chair is from 1964, if memory serves me correctly.
The black rectangular herman miller label on the bottom of your chair was used from the 1970s to the 1990s.
If you remove one of the cushions, and see round silver hooks, your chair is from 1971 or before. If they are rectangular, it's from after 1971.
Thanks Good information. I'm not really sure how to remove the cushions, but honestly I don't want to. I'll let Herman Miller do that if and when I have it redone in 30 years or so. Haha.
No problem.
Removing the cushions is actually quite easy. If you feel around the upper part of the gap between the panels and the cushion on the top headrest, you should feel a snap in the middle. You just pop that open, and then lift upwards to remove it from the hooks. The older versions also have a snap on the bottom.
