    Hello Friends,
I love photographs, and this is one of the favorites of my collection.
It's an old print, and very special to me.
I'd love to know more about it,....or more about him. Who is this ? Someone from one of the Wild West shows? The photo pendant looks like Wild Bill Hickok, or could it be Buffalo Bill Cody?
Does anyone recognize the man in this portrait?
Any information about the image would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all,
    Tony.

I'm sure I know this pic from somewhere. Problem is, I don't remember where. I'll sleep on it. Think it was U.S. actually, but I was wrong 1 time before in my life. lol

Thanks for the comment blunderbuss, that's just how I felt when I saw it, now it's been years and I haven't run into it again,....curious.

Hey Inky, are you following this & can tell us if it is aboriginal? I'll email her if that doesn't get a response. I'm looking at the claws/teeth to figure out what area.
    6. Budek Budek, 11 years ago
Thanks for all of the thought, blunder, I'm thinking like you, that it's American.
and icollectglass,.....that's the first name that came to my mind as well, but the outfit and the informality of it threw me. I still have it in my mind that he's from one of the Wild West shows,( it's that locket, or photo medallion around his neck ),......but I'm keeping my mind open.

Thanks to Tom, Kevin, Mike, and David, for the looks and loves
      very much appreciated!!

Cool print, are those crocodile/alligator teeth around his neck?
    9. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 11 years ago
Croc/gator is what I 1st thought too but I've never been a croc/gator orthodontist. Then I thought of the bear claws I've seen & they were all drilled from the side when strung so that they look straight or curved depending on angle seen from. I'm now leaning toward claw.
    10. walksoftly walksoftly, 11 years ago
I've never been a bear manicurist or pedicurist, but I have to disagree B'buss, bear claws go from a small tip to a large base. The pieces in the picture are more blunt/conical & reach their largest point apx. 2/3 of the way up (gum line) & then then taper down as the root.
    11. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 11 years ago
I agree walks, if looking from the side. I looked up bear claws & saw pics of necklaces that looked almost identical when the claws are pointed in & of course diff. species have diff. shapes. I still lean more toward bear. And walks, I thought you had done everything!

      much appreciated!
and Thank You for the comments Blunder and David! I'm learning from your discussion.

I did try my hand at it once B'bus, but the bugger wouldn't sit still & to top it off he left without paying!
It's possible he didn't like the neon pink nail polish that I put on his claws!

Reminds me of a old medicine man ?
    15. Budek Budek, 11 years ago
Hello Manikin,.....that makes a lot of sense, I also thought he might be a trapper, with definite ties,( here I go again ), to one of the Wild West shows.
I like the thought of medicine man, Thanks.
      Happy Thanksgiving!!

I don't think Australian Aboriginal as the features to me look to fine... I may be wrong but I think if there was a possibility that it was, I think vetraio50 might have said so...I too! was thinking medicine man like Manikin.... fantastic photo!...:-)
    18. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 11 years ago
Just got a reply from inky & see she has posted here too, but not as colourful. I question Amer. Indian because of the hair. I've dealt a lot with Indians & can't remember one having curly/kinky hair. He has a beard & pure Indians don't have beards. Still trying to figure where this "medicine man/shaman" idea comes from? I know I have seen this picture somewhere! I think the wild west BS shows is probable.

I'm not to sure, Frederick Douglas was very distinguished and dressed accordingly.

We must remember that Douglas was a politician. Need I say more?
    25. walksoftly walksoftly, 11 years ago
His nose & the bridge of the nose don't look correct, I agree with pops...not sure.
    26. inky inky, 11 years ago
Yes!...I have to admit that was the only thing I could see that may not make it him, but! he could have broken it..couldn't he... lol!......:-)

How old do you think the original photo may be, could he be an actor?

      Happy thanksgiving Tony.
    29. Budek Budek, 11 years ago
Thanks David, Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!
I think he may play a part in some type of show.
I'd guess that the photo dates from, 1900 to 1910,.....perhaps I should have an expert analyze the paper.
Thanks for the interesting question, David
It's always a pleasure to hear from you,
      Tony.
    30. Budek Budek, 11 years ago
      Thanks for the comments, icollectglass,
Comparing it to other old papers that I have, I believe that it dates from the 1920's at the latest.
I'll try to find out more and post the results here.
Your thoughts are much appreciated, Thanks again.

I think that's an artist rendition of what Jimi Hendrix would look like today.

      Happy Thanksgiving!

Didn't Scottvez get an invitation to this party? I think he might be most likely to know as it's his field.

      No further on this one?

      He is wonderful!
    38. Budek Budek, 11 years ago
      Hey Kevin!
It's strange to me that he seemed so familiar, I was sure someone would know who he was, but alas, no further news.
Thanks so much for your greeting, I think about you often, hoping that all is as well as it can be with both your families.
Also, I found something in a shop in Buzzard's Bay that I'm going to photograph so that I can show it to you. It's a large piece of cut amber glass, a giant snifter, like the Georgian salts that you have and the other piece that I have,...looks like a very old piece, ( and the condition it incredible!).
Maybe you could give me your thoughts on it.
      Best wishes always,
Tony from the Winter part of the world:)
