Here's another recent acquisition of a canary glass cake stand. It is speculated to have been made by U. S. Glass around 1891, but no definitive proof on maker. The pattern is seen in crystal, blue, amber, apple green and canary. This canary yellow version glows very brightly under black light. It's a bit of an unusually shaped plateau for an EAPG cake stand with a raised round gallery.

SIZE: 9-7/8" ID clear by 6-3/4" H

Don, Though we still are not certain which company made this pattern, you can comfortably place the date of production in the mid-1880s. The pattern is found in amber, blue, canary, apple green, and clear. This assortment of colors was produced for a small window of time from roughly 1884-1886. The US Glass attribution goes back some time--to Metz, I believe. There is not one single USGCo. catalog that shows this pattern; besides, this color palette found in one pattern (especially the apple green) would not have been produced in the 1890s. Some of us glass researchers did a study on apple green glass last spring. There were only a handful of companies that produced it during the EAPG era, so we can narrow down the mfgr. somewhat, but we still don't know exactly which company made "Medallion." Hopefully one of these days proof will come.

From the damn spoons ! Hitting it for eons ! Well now it exist w/ a lot if sweet characteristics and true History! It was probably let go after they finally went and broke the lid !! I'm sure ! Z~ok ! I'm glad I was able to save it & give it a good home ! It's touchable now (but only for a quarter!) jk:.:! & will never be used except for my main attraction of my display ! It's really nice to know ! Thanx ! Again !

Most delightful it must have been many years ago to share a cake with friends or family, all the while revealing a delicious pattern such as this.
Like other table ware, I'd imagine some cake stands where subject to the knife at serving time more than often causing damage. Although I can also visualize someone pre cutting their cake prior to placing it on a stand. I suppose maybe some actually decorated the cake on the stand. A lot of times I've noticed a ridge around the stands platform which suggests to me cutting on the stand is now a bit more cumbersome. I'm imagining their are appropriate knives for different stand styles. I find it interesting to say the least.
Regarding the above Tallcakes, Do you have any nice pie-knives or whatever that wedge shaped serving item is called. Maybe some fine cake knives?, or other vintage serving or cake decorating items of interest? Do the lids, if an item, show up for you as often as you'd like for your stands? Or do these tend to get separated (loss,damage,etc) as time passes through the decades? Also, is there such a thing as a eapg pie stand too? Perhaps visually appealing patterns one such as the cake stands, or maybe even a matching pattern to it's fellow cake stand? I'd find any info on the accessory side of cake stands very interesting if you don't mind indulging on the topic.
