Very old (approx 80 to 100 years old, nice oak cabinet, thanks for all the help in identifying this item. Interior view added. It was suggested that it is an annunciator, probably from a hotel or office, I was able to find similar pictures on google images. Pretty much intact and original item, somebody cut the back, leaving an access hole I guess. Shows well and will look great next to my oak wall phones. This is a great website, thanks for all your help.
Love "What's this" items! Goes thru 30, so maybe has to do with calender. Right now, that's about all I can throw in. It is sat. nite & I have noticed that the imagination of our motley crew can actually get productive on weekends. Warning: Sometimes a bit too imaginative! Does this open up?(without a chisel). It says "Reset", so how do you reset it?
Looks like an annunciator.
They made several types.
It could be a return call annunciator.
Can you open it up & post some pics of the inside?
I just got it yesterday, it does open, hinges on one side, screws come out like the early oak wall phones. I was too busy to deal with it yesterday, will try today and post pictures.
Where's TTom he's the man with the knowledge!
I have seen quite a few like this here in the UK. the ones this size would be probably be used in hotels or inns you could ring for service from your room. when you pressed a button in the room the bell would ring and a coloured disc would drop in the panel of the corresponding room numbered hole on the panel. before the days of switch boards and phones in rooms.
Awesome, I need one for my house. Service! LoL
Thank you everyone for your help in solving the "mystery". "walksoftly" was right on. Found google images for annunciator with similar items. I love this website.
