Thank you everyone for your help in solving the "mystery". "walksoftly" was right on. Found google images for annunciator with similar items. I love this website.
I just got it yesterday, it does open, hinges on one side, screws come out like the early oak wall phones. I was too busy to deal with it yesterday, will try today and post pictures.
