Here's my latest. A square egg skillet from Griswold. This one was in pretty good shape when I bought it. There was no rust on it, so I just stripped it down to the bare metal and reseasoned it. I made my first square egg today. I have to say, it tasted better than a round egg. :) I love this little skillet. It measures only 4.5 inches across the top.

neat skillet; but just where did ya get the square eggs?

      I have a couple square chickens. :)

Square eggs come from hens that got cornered by the rooster.

Now you need the one slice skillet to make toast. I believe it is 5.5" and you made the egg in one and toasted bread in the other. The one slice fit one slice of bread. Memories in this.

the cornered chicken is an interesting theory
    6. fhrjr2 fhrjr2, 11 years ago
This is confusing, if icollect is right how did the rooster corner the hen in the skillet?

Don't tell me that, fhrjr2, now I'll be looking for that skillet.

Lodge made a one slice skillet #5WS that fit one slice of bread. It was good for grilled cheese sandwich also.
    9. fhrjr2 fhrjr2, 11 years ago
Keep in mind that bread was square back then.

I have an old Lodge #6 skillet that I made cornbread in a few nights ago. Best cornbread I ever had. I'm just starting to get into cast iron. I'm liking it.

can't beat cast iron for a good cornbread

Now you can have 4 square meals a day!

As small as the skillet is, I'd have to have 8. :) And I don't know if my square chickens can lay that many square eggs in one day.
Thanks for the love, fhrjr2, bb2, agh, officialfuel, and ggc!

I would, but there isn't a category for them.

We actually prefer the square eggs. Bread is square, butter is square so we only use the square eggs for egg sandwiches. We use the round eggs for English muffins. The secret is in the chicken feed. Most people just buy those little round chicken pellets to feed their hens because they are too cheap to buy the more expensive square feed.

Why wife was just talking about the square feed.

If you want better production throw some square ice cubes in with their water, it makes all the difference in the world.
    18. jonima jonima, 11 years ago
I've never heard that. I'll give it a try.

I always add some Gatorade to the ice cubes to give the hens a bit more energy when it comes time to lay.

My comment up there should say "My wife......" That's interesting about the Gatorade. Makes sense though. I wonder if it makes the eggs a little sweeter too.
    21. fhrjr2 fhrjr2, 11 years ago
Not sure if it makes the egg any sweeter but the rooster likes the hens having that extra energy.
