I decided to add this back to my CW postings.

This is the BEST and RAREST daguerreotype that I have ever owned.

The daguerreotype is ink identified to Toronto Canada and dates from late 1846. This is the ONLY 1840s telegraph related image that I have ever seen.

The last image shows the daguerreotype before professional conservation.

Reproduction of these images is prohibited.

FYI, I'm a collector of early telegraph instruments and I can tell you that the telegraph register in the photo was made by Daniel Davis, one of the earliest maker of telegraph and scientific instruments. Most of his instruments were made as scientific demo instruments, not used in telegraph offices or anything like that. 1846 is probably a pretty accurate date for this.

Thanks spark-- appreciate you looking and commenting.

This dag had a period ink inscription in the back of the case that dated it to 1846.

Not sure if you still have it, but I have seen these telegraph-related dags sell for an ungodly amount. I saw 2 of them that sold at auction. One for $8000 and the other for $10,000. You can view one of them online:

I have a few telegraph-related Ambrotypes, some Tintypes, and a bunch of Cabinet Cards. It's really cool to find one that has a picture of a telegraph instrument you actually own !
