Purchased from a shop that said it came from a African American womans' estate. Notice the third picture says "written by the hand" which was usually done for a person who had not learned to sign their name. Amazing piece of history.
I believe Lovy Torrence was a slave girl in the Cornelius, NC area. One of the pages says "hir book" which I take to be the phonetic spelling of
"her".
