You heard it right. These were goggles or specticles made for chickens.
Marketed in the 1930's, they were also called pick-outs.
Chickens are naturally cannibles and if they see a bleeding chicken, they will peck it to death and if not removed from the pen, they will eat it. These goggles prevent them from seeing wounds of other chickens, yet, they flip out of the way for the chicken to scratch the ground. They are mounted to the chickens beak with cotter pins through the nostral vent.
Probably rarer than the goggles is the aluminum chicken that they are displayed on. He was displayed on the counter top of the feed store to promote the sale of the goggles. .....hotairfan.

The glasses are rare to find ! Nice post . Aim on Storage Wars show Barry found some in shed. They showed a vintage clip of the advertising them . Maybe that is show you saw .
