Singer & Ferris at Flatstock 25 - By the Bay

At Flatstock 25 - By the Bay on July 10, 2010, poster artists Carolyn Ferris and David Singer (that's them in the left photo) had tables and display space right next to each other. Carolyn represents a new generation of poster artists while David is known for his work for the Fillmore West and Winterland. He did more posters for Bill Graham, including the Fillmore West's final poster, than any other artist, which is a record I believe he still holds. Happily I was able to purchase a poster from each of them.

Carolyn's poster (the center photo) is a feast of red, with metallic silver lines that do not photograph well (or, I should say, I'm not a good enough photographer to show how beautiful this poster really is). I got a signed and numbered print, 3/40. I love the floral and garden references in this one, a nod to the show's location at the Hall of Flowers. The whites of the eyes are also a nice touch.

David's poster (the right photo) was for a concert earlier this year by a band called Moonalice (he's about to do his 50th poster for Moonalice, which has commissioned more than 300 posters under the art direction of Chris Shaw). The central image features a Billiken, which jfcutter posted about a few weeks ago on Show & Tell:

David signed this one for me (you can see his scrawl at the bottom of the poster). I love the name of the venue, the Domino Room, and the handmade font he created for it and the band.
