Very large chest that we think is some sort of medical supply crate from the Japanese army in WWII. It is 30" X 20" and very heavy. A friend translated some of the label and came up with "Chloromin pill, Novocaine vial, Pure Alcohol with the amounts at the bottom".
There appears to have been some old lettering painted on the top that indicates a name (Capt. Mac) and a number. I'm going to try and see if I can track this guy down...I figure he's the guy who brought it back.
It is made of wood with leather around the edge of the lid and small leather washers between the tiny odd screws that hold the inside label to the lid. The paper is nice and thick and you can see the weave in the fibers.
It is in near perfect condition. Very minimal scratching for the environment you would expect it to have been in.
I'm having a thick piece of glass cut for the top and will be using it as a coffee table. It is by far the coolest thing I've picked.
If anyone can translate the label in its entirety I would love to know what the rest of it says!

Very cool! Is that leather around the inner edges of the lid? The glass is a great idea.

yes its leather...and though it is dry around the outside edge it is completely intact.
