Found these at flea market, sold for fans, which damaged the very old silk!
Details are amazing, and the embroidery is made in a way the same decor is on the reverse! When examining you can't say which face is the reverse!
Never seen something like that...
Unfortunately the silk is burnt by age...
Hope you will enjoy them.
Thanks for your loves, tom vetraio shrine and aghcollect!
Really beautiful!! Great way to keep cool! Wish you could fan me on a hot summers night! Don XXOOXX
Thanks racer, toracat, pops and SEAN for your loves :-)
No, no, Don, these are NOT fans! ;-)
Recently found out what they are!
These are called "pien mien" chinese name for face cover, face screen.
It appear it is very rare to get a pair!

I've never seen before a double sided so fine embroidery.
These are wonderful in every way, kyratango.
Many many thanks Kath for your lovely comment :-D
this has to go to an expert , my eyes are too bad promising could be an aya Zhejiang, the grip is right , but the colors of the scene sceneare rather bright, promising , but probably folk art
the grip is a so called canton grip 1880-1920 , the problem is they sell these this on every streetcorner nowadays , and i am not skilled enough to see the difference on srene
Thank you apostata, I'm sure they are antique, the highest quality of the double sided embroidery (mirror image on both side of each piece, without any knot showing) on a single sheet of silk and the age decay of the fabric says it all...
you could be right the grip make sense , but i cant, judge the aya Zhejiang this way, i have to feel and see this !
Eileen, me too! The fineness of the thread and of the fabric are amazing, and you can't even tell one face from the other, the work is perfect on both sides!!!
Just found a similar in Cooper Hewitt collection!
