These I got in 1996, almost two years before I moved into my first appartment and I was still living at my parents'. My sister-in-law saw them at a furniture store -one of those huge ones in the middle of a road I never would have gone to because I cannot drive-. I remember she told me she had seen “some of those black chairs you like so much” and they were very cheap as the store was on clearance. As i don't trust anyone's opinions about what i like or I don't (sadly they have often proved wrong when giving me some present...) I showed her the Mackintosh chairs and she said those were the chairs...

The very next day after work I went to a fancy design furniture shop and asked for the price of them... around 130000 pesetas each (whih translates into something around 780 euros)
A couple of days later we drove there and I could buy them for such an amazing price, around 30000 pesetas (180 euros). Nowadys, the Cassina Hill House chair (the ladderback chair) is selling for 1700 euros).

The Hil House chair lives in the bedroom and is the one where i used to leave my day worn clothes. On pic 4 you can see ita back againts my bedroom's white and yellow net curtains. The Argyle chair (the one with the big oval on top) presides the dining table (see pic No.3) and, of course, I sit on it everytime I have guests. Makes me feel important (although after seen The Ghost Menace it makes me feel more like queen Amidala :/ )

I guess they date from the late 80s or early 90s.

The original chairs were designed in 1897 (Argyle chair) and 1903 (Hill House).

Fabulous chairs! My eyes could never miss this thumbnail on the CW site and obviously you have a great eye for selecting chairs.

As you stated, your chairs are by the famous designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh (Glasgow 1868-1928).

The first one is commonly referred to as the "Argyle" chair, designed circa 1898-1899.

The second one, the "Hill House" chair, was designed circa 1904. The "Hill House" in Helensburgh, Scotland, was designed by Mackintosh. In addition, he designed almost every decorative aspect and furnishings for the house.

Isn't it fun to be so eclectic.

      Thanks Sean and Solver.

Last Summer we visited Glasgow and it was great to see most of the Mackintosh buildings and quite a lot of his designs. I've been crazy about his work since I was 20 or so, so having the chance to see them in person was amazing :)

Thanks for your loves valentino, agh, mike and kerry!

austrohungaro, I thought of you after I read the devastating news about the fire that has destroyed the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Glasgow School of Art. Most important, all were evacuated and nobody was hurt. I hope this was one of the buildings you saw last summer.

I know it may sound stupid, but I'm devastadted. I'm actually crying at the sight of the images. The library is in the area most affected by the fire, as was the room displaying all the furniture. I hope they've been able to save some. So sad!
