I am helping a friend identify these two chairs. The chairs seem to have been reupholstered in 1967 in what seems 666 5th Ave NYC??? (assuming from tag notes). It has a tag but we know nothing about tags so the answer could be right there. He wants to keep them but wants to learn to story behind them since they are so amazing. I can take more pictures. Any help in identifying them would be very much appreciated. I did not know how to categorize them, so i choose "mid-Century" after a search or two in the internet. Thanks in advance....
_the rookie :)
Anyone ? :(
guess not :(
looks like the date is obvious as May 1967. Other than that, I'm just not sure. Did you actually list this under unsolved mysteries? There's a great group of very educated folks on this site and very helpful as well.
I love chairs too and don't have too much knowledge on them myself, except Queen Anne chairs, and those are pretty valuable. Yours, like the one I listed myself, I don't imagine are very valuable, although you may love it, it does not appear to me to be a high end chair...maybe no one wanted to tell you that.
Don't get discouraged, try something else. :)
One more thing, I just looked at the chair again and realized it was recovered in 1967. Could be 30 yrs older??? Anyway, it looks as though the legs have been cut off at the bottom. The ends, whatever they were are also missing.
Thank you Shareurpassion.... its OK, I am not really trying to appraise them, just want to know the history of them. Everyone who sees the chairs, loves them, but my friend does not have a story to go with them.... So its more of a history search than anything else, but do not know where to start except that i listed them in the "Unsolved Mysteries". I truly appropriate your input. Thanks again.
You're welcome! Stick around, it's lots of fun here and tons of education and great people...So I guess I'll be the one to say, Welcome to the CW...you've never seen crazy like this!!! :)
Those are very similar to "Scoop Chairs"...

I'd start from there...
