9th plate Ruby Ambrotype. I scored this Wide Awake from Michigan. This was a listing on eBay with poor pictures that you could hardly see the image. I took a chance because the insignia on his vest is the insignia of the Wide Awakes, a para-military group of Lincoln supporters founded in 1860.

Oh my goodness. I took a peek at this photo mostly for info about kind of photo, as I have many old ones, just didn't ever get too far with my study of them.

The best part for me is the patch. I could be wrong but I am soooo hoping that this needle point I have is of this patch. ( I am determined to get my picture issues handled very soon, with many thanks to a member here that is willing to take her time in helping me).

So will be posting this needle point soon and I hope it is this one which would explain why it would be missing something that I thought was it. (sorry to just blurt out but I am now in a rush to try my photos!!!

The eagle is not a patch, but rather a metal insignia that most Wide-Awakes wore attached to their oil cloth kepi hats, but this fellow chose to pin to his vest.
