The eagle is not a patch, but rather a metal insignia that most Wide-Awakes wore attached to their oil cloth kepi hats, but this fellow chose to pin to his vest.

I took the preserver off......It has a piece of glass permanently attached to it...... and you can't see anything but a black blob.
Thanks Guys.....My passion for Dags and Ambrotypes is not appreciated around my house. Family thinks I'm a cross between an eccentric and a hoarder!!!! I really enjoy these early images. It's history.
