Antique Pocket watch

This is a quarter size 14 kt gold pocket watch which could be from the 1800's or early 1900's. There is no company name but I did find #12026 on the cover. That number comes up to Elgin Watch Co., however I read that the number on the cover of a watch is not the serial number but there is no serial number on the works of the watch. This watch sat in my mothers jewelry box for my whole life but I can't remember if she ever said who's it was to start with. I'm big into my family's ancestry because the previous generations died young so I had no family history so if I can find out some info on this watch I maybe able to match it to a family member.
