The wife inherited this awesome painting on porcelain in the mid eighties from her grandmother who lived in West Virginia (Charleston) , but formerly lived in Pennsylvania . The painting , without frame is 13" x 10" wide. In pencil on the back is the name , Dean , a name not associated with the family. I have removed the painting from the frame and found no signature anywhere on it. Is this even Victorian , could it be Edwardian or is it something else? It is one of our favorite possessions on display in our house.
Thanks for the love, aghcollect, any thoughts on this?
Really beautiful.
Looks to be Victorian era, Most Likely German Factory. Is there any impressed marks on back?
May very well be a home painted piece, a popular hobby. Inspiration, Grace, and Charm.

Possible, blanks were purchased in bulk from Germany, but it is Victorian era. That's obvious by the age of frame, looking at back.
Love this!
Thanks for the loves and all the info!
it has a confusing style of dress. I would have said moving in to flapper or even out.
Confusion
Long dress hem
short sleeves
Bright colours
Painting on porcelain
The very Victorian face paints.
So yes, who ever painted this had a great deal of confusion.
I say painted by a man who had no idea of what to sress these ladies up in....lol
However it's beautiful and deserves to be in that gorgeous frame...enjoy it and makesure who ever you hand it to keeps it firmly in the family :)
thanks, Annelanders for your thoughts and for all of the loves from others.
