Original WW II Japanese Army Officers Shin-Gunto Samurai Sword

This is a WW II Japanese officers sword, brought back by a vet during the war. To the G.I.,these were highly prized souvenirs along with flags and rifles. This sword has the original company grade officers blue and brown tassel, along with the original wooden surrender tag. Many officers used a tag with their name on it in hopes that their sword would be returned to them at a later date, because many of the blades were family heirlooms passed from gereration to generation. Some of these blades were made by master swordsmiths and were hundreds of years old. The handle has a brown cloth wrap over a white sting ray skin, as well as brass fittings. The handle is attached to the blade by means of a bamboo peg. The scabbard is painted green with brass fittings. This sword was brought back from the Japanese island of Okinawa.
