    (584 items)

This is one of the pride items at home, a Napoleone Martinuzzi plant sculpture made for Venini in the late 1920s, when he was artistic director at Venini between 1925 and 1932.
This item was bought long ago in Madrid, and it has a funny story. Carlos saw it at a very, very posh furniture store in the early 1980s. They usually sold modern furniture there, but suddenly they displayed a complete Art Deco study: desk, chairs and easy-chairs, bookshelves, cabinets… all kind of stuff, plus some decorative objects, amongst them three pieces by Martinuzzi: this one, another pot in green with a carnivore plant in the pulegoso technique, and the iconic 1928 “Vittoriale” vase he presented at the Venezia Biennale (http://www.pinterest.com/pin/535013630704534323/). Carlos saved money to buy this one as he loved the iridescent cobalt blue the most. Then, he saved some more to buy the green pulegoso pot but it had just been sold. Later, after saving enough money to purchase the wonderful Vittoriale, he found out it had got broken one day while they were cleaning it… soooo sad! The vase was still at the shop, but it had a big crack on it.

This piece is really hard to photograph as it usually shows the traslucent cobalt blue, although when you see it it looks like a totally opaque item. Also, the iridescence is hard to get on picture, that’s why I took pics 2 and 3 In any case, the sculpture is really amazing, I hope you can appreciate it! .

Wow, that's stunning - surrealism in glass! It's a real challenge to take pictues of glass, and you managed it really well. There was this exhibition in Venice, last year

      http://www.lestanzedelvetro.it/en/exhibitions/past_exhibitions/archive-year-2013/napoleone_martinuzzi/

and I was so sad that I could not go there - some fantastic pictures on this site, too.

Thanks everybody for loving: cobalt, GlueChip, Tom, Amber, Rustfarm, VioletOrange, Share, Mac, Moonhill and racer!!!!

Haha, Thanks Share, that's quite a compliment! :)

Cobalt: I would have loved to have gone to Venice simply to see the exhibition, especially since we've got two Martinuzzis (remember i told you so? At the end we ended up going to Brussels). I've been wanting to get the book on the exhibition but never seem to find the right moment :)

Hi Austrohungaro. This has taken my breath away! I can't believe this is from the '30s. From the thumb nail photo i thought it looked interesting modern.
    29. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 10 years ago
I'm so glad you like it Fran :)

They were far moer modern in that time that we use to think they were, and virtually in every aspect of life, not always design.

Thanks SO SO MUCH for your love!!!!
