Walter Rudolph Reach was the Founder of Courtland Toy Company in Camden, New Jersey. He opened business in 1932. I know the Fire Chief car is rough and missing the back tires but I only paid $3 for it. The tires on the front have Courtland embossed on them. It still looks good in the display case and to have a toy of that era is nice.

Love the car, but really love the national in the back ground, I've got a big old heavy one from a gas station, with the keys for lube, gas ,ect, the paper label under the drawer says the station's name and address and date of manufacter from national, is it a goodie?
kerry10456, I've got another one out in the garage that is nicer than this one.
Had an uncle who worked for National back in the 40s-70's, I,ve always had a liking to them, don't know a thing about them, just that they're neat
I love them too! They just look nice sitting there.
This is an INCREDIBLE piece. I'm not even a car guy (my dad is - ha) but I LOVE these tin toys. Wow.
Thanks for the nice comment modernscavenger!
Thank you trukn20!
These old tin friction cars are just awesome. I have a number of these from Marx, Courtland, TN (Nomura, Japan) and others. Smalls like this are awesome because there are so many variations. Even without the back wheels it's a great item.

I have a Chief Fire Dept no. 1 car that has four people in the car instead of two and it is all red. I am looking to see how much it is worth and what year it might have been made?
Cindy, thank you for stopping by. You would need to post a picture of your car so we can see what your talking about. :-)
