I am very fond of this large vase with green, red and blue glaze, produced by Revernay in France. Little is known about the pottery, except that it existed ca. 1896 to ca. 1930 (see my previous post with additional history: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/118725-stoneware-vase-revernay-france-ca-1). This vase was probably produced around 1900. The style with the slightly marbled effect in the glazing is very characteristic of Revernay so often the vases are instantly recognisable. In a French exhibition catalogue this effect is called ‘imitant de coulures’, ‘imitation drip glaze’. The vase was originally owned by a Danish politician Oscar Muus Bruun (it was sold via an antiques dealer by his descendants), who lived 1847-1918, so we have a terminus ante quem for it. On the bottom the original price is added in pencil – it was DKK 22.25 (= € 3). At the time a skilled worker earned DKK 4 per day, so it was a little more than a week’s pay!

Height: 23 cm / 9 in. Mark: Mark: 'Revernay' and the number 148 48.

Thanks, paris1925 - yes, it is quite interesting how the vases have ended up here... There are a few others around (owned by a well-known art collector) and they all come from Copenhagen, so it is generally thought that there must have been a dealer here selling them around 1900, possibly the department store 'Magasin' (still in existence), where the politician I mention above worked at some point!

Wonderful! I really like the peacock-like effect of the design and glaze colors.

Thanks everyone for the enthusiasm and comments - it's great to be able to share one's interests with others (my friends & family don't always share my interest in 'old pots'!)

Thanks, GlueChip - yes, they show up on French ebay from time to time (usually exorbitantly priced!) - I bought this one and the blue-and-white one I have also posted here on an auction, and I was amazed to learn that there were no other bidders!

I have the same vase, only it is light blue tint instead of the green. Love it and the covered candy dish that almost matches it.
