I have no idea what this is. My first guess was an old, portable telegraph. Next I was thinking electroshock therapy. I just don't have a clue. Does anyone have any idea?

There are no markings, no name plates, nothing burned or stained into the wood, nothing.

Likely for Electro Shock Therapy, or an early defibrilator

It is a pre-edison era electric shock device. If you're an ebay user, search quack medical devices, there are some $100-$300. I bet it was used to determine if a person was a 'witch'. It should have a plate with footprints on it. I suppose if it was never used, the plate may not have footprints on it.

Early 1890's medical quackery. Looks like the magneto may be missing.
