Large Vase, Andersson & Johansson, Höganäs (Sweden), 1910-1920

Tall vase with green drip glaze made by the Andersson & Johansson pottery in Höganäs, Sweden (not to be confused with Höganäsbolaget) with a typical early 20th-century shape. It appears to be a little unfinished or haphazardly made, but certainly not without charm…

The pottery was established in 1909 by Johannes Olofsson (1899-1969) and Sigfrid Johanssen (d. 1944). When Olofsson left the following year, Karl Anderssson (d. 1962) took over, both having worked at nearby Höganäsbolaget as a potter and glazer, respectively. The most well-known products from the pottery is probably the dinnerware 'Old Höganäs' designed by John Andersson (artistic director from 1924) in the 1950's, a very nice series in produced in brown, blue and green. Another famous Swedish potter, Hertha Bengtson, worked there 1965-1968.

Today, the pottery is named Höganäs Keramik and it still produces lovely ceramic items for daily use (albeit not in Sweden anymore...)! Height: 32 cm. Mark: Monogram consisting of 'A' (for Andersson) and 'J' (for Johansson) in a circle. This mark was used 1910-1920. Also the number 277.
