Bottle is 3 inches tall and 2 1/4 wide. Looks like its made out of some sort of bone. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I would love to know what it is, where it originated and it's age.
No, silver on the bottom is smooth
I believe it to be hand crafted as size and shape are a little off
It could be...
Looks like an inkwell to me too (??) -- with some Scrimshaw carving on the sides of it.
Possible Silver IMHO too ??
Sorry, what is IMHO?
IMHO = In My Humble Opinion.....LOL
Hi Tina! Look up Schreger lines for detecting ivory, so useful to know! I don't see any from the pics, I zoomed in as far as I could. It could also be horn, I think...I wish I knew what it was...it is so interesting to look at, I will follow and learn :)
yeah, Look up Schreger lines for detecting ivory!!Kinda an Inkwell
Hi there! I think it is bone, a khol recipient, so probably North African.

The little stick is to apply the black powder khol on the eyelid edge!
Oh kyra! Awesome! I learn so much from you! Such a great item Tina!
top notch Kyratango!!congrats!
?? bad ?? Ô..ô why? Snifff...
Lol, I'm a bad, bad troll ! (only with some obstinate posters!) ;-))
Lol! Kyra, we say bad in a good way too! Mostly like bad a**, like in charge! Boss! ;)
Aaah, great relief! As French, all English language subtilities can be mysteries ;-)
bad a** !! 'Kboss' !!
Yes, KBoss! If you hear something is "sick," it might be good as well :D
AAhhh... Is troll a good nickname too? ;-D
An adorable kyratroll, who makes sense and is rational, all with a sense of humor :)
Can you swab inside with a Q-tip, or a longer stick, if that's what will reach? See if there's residual material inside that can be scraped or flaked off. Maybe it will be colored, and that would be a good clue. Maybe your item was a gum pot, and there's a hardened mass in there.
George Thorogood-Bad to the Bone
On the day I was born
The nurses all gathered 'round
And they gazed in wide wonder
At the joy they had found
The head nurse spoke up
Said "leave this one alone"
She could tell right away
That I was bad to the bone
:)))))))
kyratango, I think you may be correct. I tried the Q-tip suggestion from noob and it came out black! Thank you all for the comments and the entertainment! Glad I came across this site.
Tina
This is amazing! I believe it's an ink bottle too. You can try this site for reference. If it doesn't work, I'll find the others for you too, but try this one first. I can't find it right now but I know it's "Digger O'dell" without the quote marks, of course. another might be

Actually a book store or library is more likely to give you more...we'll see.

Ahh yes, classic, southcop!
I thought this was solved until I found one for sale on Etsy, it is being described as a snuff bottle from Afghanistan, handcrafted in the 1930's, any thoughts on this? The owner of the other one does not have a lid nor the pick.
I'm certain it is for khôl, the stick is typical (even if it hadn't been used!)
Without all the pieces, the seller had to make a guess...:)
Kyra wins again....yes mam' bad to da bone!!!
Tina, the owner of the other one doesn't have a clue either...lol!!!
I would take this to a Museum and ask them about it .... never hurts to ask further. Keep us posted
