I love this candleholder. I love its in other day chromed metalwork (and I do as it’s a sign of the past of time as well as of erosion due to the humid and salty air in Valencia), its bell shaped base, and the avant-garde decor on it, so very 1930s! At some point it reminds me of the work of Robert and Sonia Delaunay.
As I told you when I posted our Valencian metal box (http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/111182-art-deco-modernist-box-valencia-spain), the wealthy Valencia, as an important port city, from where tons and tons of first quality oranges where exported to the rest of Europe, and a center for the decorative arts, was one of the most modern and progressive cities in Spain. Some of the best Art Deco and Functionalist architecture can be found there, and from time to time one can find samples of the incredible modernity one could have easily found there 80 years ago, just like this candleholder.
Well I have to rate this highly - just love the graphic glaze!
