I love these fantastic Art Deco knife rests. (I have posted 2 sets of pics on CW to see them all). There is a set of six with a sportsman or Olympics theme to them.

The other set are shown here:

    http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/150546-sportsman-french-art-deco-knife-rests-p?in=user

The six of them include: a swimmer, rugby player, motorcyclist, race car driver, runner, and a hockey player or lacrosse player. My favorites are the old style roadster and motorcyclist. They were designed by Pierre Devouge in Paris, circa 1925, and they are silver plated. They have some great patina to them, and I have not polished them. They are stamped with a very small rectangular hallmark on the top.

There is a similar set for sale here, but I like mine better:

They represent another bygone era, where knife rests were used in formal dining to support the knife so that it would not stain a tablecloth. Today, they are purchased mainly as collector's items, but I'd love to use them sometime for a deco dining experience!

Yes...I've tried my best to get a picture of the very small hallmark and added it above. To me, it looks like a P.V....any help in identifying it would be great. Thanks.

Hi David...to me, it looks like a P.V.. But I could be wrong...it's very hard to see.

Thank you so much! Now I need to find more information on Pierre Devouge. And I see I'm missing some really nice ones from the set!
